My Convention Swap 2011

 

Well, at the moment I am enjoying the first day of Stampin' Up! Convention in Melbourne, Australia!  Here is the swap card I created for this year.

I have used the Awash with Flowers stamp set, using the stamp-a-ma-jig to do all the 2-step stamping.  This makes the flowers much more 3 dimensional.

The top note die was the perfect border for my flowers, sponged of course!

I have brayed ink onto the square lattice folder before putting it through the bigshot, to create a much bolder background. 
I have even stamped and cut out one of the flowers, this is big for me, I try and avoid cutting out if I can!

Finished off with the word window punch and decorative label punch.

I hope you enjoy this card as much as I will be enjoying Convention!

A Wheelie Big Fundraiser for Alyssa McCartney

My lovely friend and downline Christie Wallace is holding a fundraising event on 12th February 2011 to buy a wheelchair for a little girl in need, Alyssa McCartney.

My Hamilton Island Incentive Trip

I know I have been back for over a week now, but thought for the sake of posterity, that I would still post about my Incentive Trip Experience.  This will be a long post, so grab a cuppa!

The trip was awesome!  Achieving the Incentive Trip was a dream come true.  And it lived up to my expectations!

One of the highlights of the trip for me happened on the flight TO Hamilton Island!  There was a celebrity on our flight!  GUY SEBASTIAN!  AHHHHHHHH!  Ok, I have calmed down now!  How cool is that! 

I was too polite to ask for a photo with him,  but I did manage a photo of him in the background.  Sorry to Ness and Yvonne  who were I was pretending to take a photo of:

 
Guy Sebastian, in the flesh!  He had a gig that night with one of the other corporate groups on the Island. He was awesome on stage too!

Simply stunning!

We arrived on the Wednesday about lunch time and had time for a walk around.  We checked out the beach with Jayne and Gareth.  Jayne and I ended up with the bottoms of our pants wet after this shot, but we didn't mind - because we were on Hamilton Island on the Stampin' Up! Incentive Trip (5 days and 4 nights all expenses paid - how fabulous!)

We walked down the beach and found the dolphin pool (one of many on the island), a fondly remembered spot of Cameron's from a previous trip to Hamilton Island, in his youth.  He tried to convince us that Dolphin's did actually swim in this pool when he visited.  We remain unconvinced, even with the verification of his mother!  Anyway - the view was so tropical I had to take a picture:

 

Later that night was the opening dinner.  The food was nice but the company was even better.  Here are some shots of the night:

We raced home in the rain, to find our pillow gift for the evening:

 
A dry bag filled with oranges, trail mix, water and 2 waterproof cameras - preparing us for our day trip to the Great Barrier Reef in the morning.  The weather was slightly dubious, and being the weather guru that he is, Cameron was well aware of the conditions.  He decided to politely refuse the trip and remain on dry ground for the day. A very wise move! 

The rest of us headed off to the Reef trip early in the morning.  When they started handing out the sick bags about 20 minutes into the trip (before the rough waves hit) I knew Cameron had done the right thing.  Over half the group enjoyed the facility of the barf bags in the 2 metre swell, with strong winds as an added bonus.  I, on the other hand, loved the trip to the Reef!  It was like a roller coaster, without warning.  Wooo Hooooo!  Of course, I couldn't really enjoy the trip in full spirit, because the suffering of those around me was so profound, AND, it takes 2 hours to get to the Reef, so it wasn't a short trip either.

Anyway, we made it the Reef and enjoyed snorkelling in our skin tight stinger suits.  Thank goodness I don't have a shot of that to share with you. My stinger suit was Blush blossom in colour and completely see through, leaving nothing to the imagination!  The snorkelling was great.  The sea sickness tablets were in hot demand on the trip home. 

Dinner that night was fantasitic!  A small group of us headed out and ended up at the gourmet pizza resturant on the island.  The food was outstanding and the company, wonderful.  We had a brilliant night!

AND there is always more to come with Stampin' Up! involved - another pillow gift, this time a lovely tin filled with stamps, inks and other supplies for tomorrows make and take session:

We had so much fun creating together, but it was a little humid and so Theresa and Jayne used the tissue from our window sheets to dab their sweating foreheads! Too funny:

 

This is taking such a long time to blog, so I will endeavour to add the second half of my trip tomorrow.

I'm off to the Incentive Trip!

That's right.  I am off to Hamilton Island tomorrow for 5 fun filled days on the Stampin' Up! Incentive Trip.

Here are my travel documents and lovely bag tags, along with my tickets for spinning the prize wheel each day! AND the My first Incentive Trip pin!

 

I am very excited to be able to enjoy this time away with my husband and no. 1 supporter and to be able to share the trip with some lovely demonstrators and friends from Australia and New Zealand.

Pretty in Pink and Girls Night In

 

Here is one of the first cards I created with the Bella toile background stamp.  The greeting says "Thanks" but it didn't photograph well.  The pink pirouette ink is just a bit too pale in this light. 

I gathered the pink taffeta ribbon by snipping the end in half and pulling one thread - a bit tricky but worth the effort I think!

The pink theme of this card reminds me of the Girls Night In that I am holding on Saturday 23 October at 7.30pm to raise money for women's cancer.  If you would like to come along just let me know.

All Pink Manhattan Flowers for Girls Night In

 
Here are 3 cards made using the Manhattan flower textured Impressions folder from Stampin' Up!  This card was actually designed by the lovely Kari Hughes, I have just changed the colour scheme slightly - to all pink!  I have gone pink for a cause, women's cancer.

Hearts Sweet Slumber and Ribbon Card

This is a card the guests at my Sale-a-bration Launch Party, way back in January, got to make as one of the 'make and takes'.

I used the lovely 'Sweet Slumber Specialty' papers (that are actually textured card) behind the 'heart to heart' punch, that punches out 3 different sized hearts with one punch.

The two yellow hearts are stamped with the 'Hello Again' stamp set and then cut out and raised up on dimensionals.

The so saffron grosgrain ribbon is gathered on two strips of 'sticky strip', the extra sticky tape from Stampin' Up!  I found this was essential to hold the ribbon in place.  Here is a close up:

Choo Choo Here Comes Spring....

  

Here is a Sneak Peak at a stamp set that is in the NEW Spring Mini Catalogue from Stampin' Up!  It is called Choo Choo and is so sweet, I just had to have it!

The train tracks are the matching wheel - You can't really get one with out the other, now can you?

There is another sneak peak on this card - the scallop oval that I used to represent a cloud!  It is just perfect for layering with the large and small oval punches.

Party Hearty Birthday Card

 

This is the third and final make and take from my 'New Catalogue Launch Party' in April.  I couldn't show it to you until now, as this is also the card (or similar to this) that I am making for my swap at convention this year and I didn't want to let the cat out of the bag before the big event! 

As I am now on my way to Stampin' Up! Convention (yippee!) I figured it was OK to show you all!

Convention is a yearly event held by Stampin' Up! for all Australian and New Zealand Demonstrators.  It is a wonderful event with lots of classes, make and take sessions, the annual awards dinner and of course a plethora of fabulous demonstrators to spend time with and swap cards with!  I look forward to it each year and this year is no exception.  I am heading to Canberra right now - which is the only negative - the weather is going to be quite a bit colder than Sydney.  I am sure that the warm hearted demonstrators and staff of Stampin' Up! will make it a lovely cosy event though.  I have also packed my winter woollies to combat the cold!

Bon Voyage 'Looks Like Spring'

 

Together with my team, the Creative Stampers, I am holding a 'Bon Voyage' Card Making Night tonight in Quakers Hill to raise money for the Cancer Council.  We have hired a hall and collaborated to offer our guests 10 different cards they can make for $20.  $5 of this is donated to the Cancer Council.

It has been a wonderful team effort and I have really enjoyed working with my team members to create cards and decide all the details of the night.  Above is one of the cards that our guests can make (or very similar!)  There will also be lucky door prizes, great special offers, raffles and light supper.

We have created all the cards using retiring stamp sets and products.  This card uses Looks Like Spring stamp set and the matching Spring bouquet flower punch.  A great set because you can stamp the 3 flower stamp in the set then punch them out using the matching punch.  This means you can create flower embellishments for your projects and cards in any colour you require!!  How fantastic!  This stamp set and punch are only available until the end of March.

Christmas Project Night for World Card Making Day

 

   

Are you free on Friday 3rd October, 7.30pm?

If you are, then you may want to attend our Christmas Project Night in Quakers Hill, Sydney.

You get to make 5 projects on the night (4 are pictured, the 5th is a Christmas card!) and can choose between the Holiday harmony papers (top, using white ribon) or Dashing papers (using red ribbon).  You get the entire pack of paper and will only use about half of it on the night so will be able to make the projects all over again when you get home.

Cost is $25 per person, including all materials. 

You just need to bring your paper cutter and adhesive.

A Stampin' Up! event would not be complete without swapping! 

Here are all the swaps from the demonstrators on the recent Australian Incentive trip. They are all fantastic!  I was so lucky to be able to swap with some of the top demonstrators in Australia.  Thanks to everyone who swapped with me!

The next event for me will be Sydney Regional Training being held on Saturday 6 September in Darling Harbour.  Stampin' Up! are providing this day of training for all demonstrators. Each demonstrator can also take along a guest.  The day cost $95 and included in this price is a stamp set and lunch!

The Alternate Make and Takes!

These are the make and takes of the demonstrators on the recent Australian Incentive Trip that were guests of achieving demonstrators.  We had our own Make and Take session on Friday morning when all the achieving demonstrators were participating in the session run by Stampin' Up! on the trip.

Myself (Joanna Wassens), Julia Quinn, Jane Reynolds and Ros Oakes all congregated in my room for our 'alternate' stamping session.  We had lots of fun and each brought along a make and take for the other 3.  Julia, actually brought along 2 because she is so generous!  Thanks Julia!

I love all of them but espcially love the 6x6 page that Julia designed for us, because it has means I have another layout completed!  They seem to be few and far between these days.  Here is a close up - the photo is only 3 years old - but a nice one to have displayed.

My Incentive Trip Highlights

I was lucky enough to be a guest on the Australian Stampin' Up! Incentive Trip to Palm Cove this year.  It was held last week and this is where we stayed - at the Angsana Resort and Spa.  It was magnificent!

Here is the view we had from our apartment (2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, full kitchen, dining area, lounge area and balcony!!)  Luxury plus!

Stampin' Up! really know how to pamper their top achievers and each achieving demonstrator was given a gift each night on the trip.  These were usually delivered to our room and left for us to discover at our leisure. 

Gifts that Jayne was given this year included a lovely soft cotton hoody, super soft monogramed bath robe, animal print beach bag, stamp sets, ink pads, cooler bag, plus a chance to win products or chocolates on the prize wheel.

Here is my luggage tag, name badge and the chocolates I won on the prize wheel on the last day - they even let guests spin for chocolates on the last day!!

Jayne, being the amazingly generous and thoughtful friend that she is, decided to give me gifts as well.  I discovered them on my bed each night too!  It was a wonderful surprise.  Here is what she gave me:

A personalised notebook, stamp set, matching chocolates and decorated candle and the cutter kit (something I have been coveting for ages!).  Thank you so much Jayne.

Here is a closeup of the notebook - which has been covered and decorated by Jayne - it is just lovely and something I will cherish.  Isn't it the handmade gifts you recieve that you cherish the most.

Season of Joy Magnetic Bookmark!

This is the third and final make and take that the guests at my Spring Mini Catalogue Launch Party got to make (for free!).  A magnetic bookmark!  Read on to find out how it works!

I used the new Season of Joy stamp set to make this bookmark.  It is a Christmas set but can be used in a non-Christmassy way, as I have shown!

To make this book mark you need a long strip of card folded in half.  You attach 2 flat magnets to the inside base of the card.  These magnets will hold the bookmark in place when folded over your page.  The ribbon will stick out the top of your book to mark your place!  Here is a photo of the magnets so you can see what I mean:

You use the Stampin' Up! horizontal slot punch to punch the small slots for the ribbon to go through.  I have also used my Stampin' Write bashful blue marker to colour the edge of my white ribbon to give it a lift before threading it through the slots and tying in the front.

I have also added some detail with my paper piercing template from the Stampin' Up! mat pack to the corners of the white card and on some of the swirls too.

Christmassy Triangle Box!

I just love the triangle box! It is so simple, yet looks so effective.  These two photos are of the same box.  One is taken outside during the day and the other inside at night - hence the colour differences!

This is the second make and take from my Spring Mini Catalogue Launch Party last week.  If you would like information on my future launches don't forget to sign up for my newsletter at the top left of my blog.

I used the lovely new jumbo wheel - called 'It's Beautiful' - and it is!  Everyone at my launch used the Stampin' Up! whisper white ink pad to wheel the design onto the wild wasabi card.  We all used the fabulously priced (one of the cheapest on the market) Stampin' Up! heat tool to dry the white ink.  The white ink is pigment ink so doesn't dry instantly like the other Stampin' Up! classic dye inks, so to avoid smudging the beautiful design we zapped it with the heat tool - a small price to pay for such an effective outcome!

It was then a simple process to stamp the flower from the coordinating stamp set 'A beautiful thing', punch it out and mount it onto the larger punched out circle and the punched out scallop circle.  We punched some small holes in our boxes with the fabulous crop-a-dile (punches through many layers with ease!) and tied our ribbon to finish.

A great little treat box for your Christmas tree, or as a gift box for someone special.

My Spring Mini Catalogue Launch

If you attended my Spring Mini Catalogue launch party last Friday then you would have received one of these goodie bags!  I am very happy with how they turned out and hopefully they will be easy for my guests to reuse as either a birthday gift bag or a Christmas gift bag.

I used the So Swirly jumbo wheel to roll the swirly design across each bag front and back, then stamped the small flower from the Enjoy Every Moment stamp set onto the swirls in real red classic ink.  The tag is made using the 'enjoy' greeting from the Enjoy Every Moment stamp set too.  Some red and green ribbon finish the decoration off nicely!

INKling Demonstrator of the Year 2007-2008!

Yes, that is me, Joanna Wassens!  I am the INKling team Demonstrator of the Year!

Jayne Mercer recently held her team award night.  She used the same criteria for the Australian Stampin' Up! Demonstrator of the Year within her team - AND out of over 100 demonstrators, I was the WINNER!  WooHoo!

I was very surprised!  But extremely pleased.  This award is not really just for me - I couldn't have done it without my team, The Creative Stampers.  So I would like to thank all of my team members for all their hard work and support in the past Stampin' Up! Year.  All of the ladies in my team are lovely and each have their own strengths to make our team fantastic!

New Catalogue Launch Party Tonight

What I bought at Convention

These are my purchases from Momento Mall, the Stampin' Up! equivalent of Harrods!  OK, maybe not that expensive - but a great shopping experience none-the-less!

I bought:

-  the small black handbag complete with Stampin' Up! logo, which at present has a lovely card from my upline Jayne in the side pocket (thanks Jayne!) but will also fit a mini catalogue or a photo of your loved ones or whatever you like really!

- a cap (with the Scribble wheel embroidered on the peak and top of the cap),

- some pretty magnets,

- a notepad

- and the Dream Big convention soundtrack (to play at my team meetings to inspire all of my team!)

I've also pictured the cute cardboard tote they gave us to shop with.

Convention Gifts

These are all the gifts I got at Stampin' Up! Convention!

A 12x12 bag with a large clear pocket on the side to showcase a scrapbook page, my name tag, lanyard and Dream Big convention pin, my recruiting pin AND 4 stamp sets!!!  Woo Hoo!  You gotta love free rubber!

2 of these free sets were included in the price of convention, fun and fast notes and the happiness background stamp. Garden Whimsy was the set we received at the leadership training session.  And Short and Sweet is the set I received for my recruiting award. 

So not only was convention uplifting, inspiring, refreshing, loads of fun and filled with stamping.

We got free gifts too!!

Convention this year.  A 12 x 12 scrapbook page (mine still needs a photo to be added!), with matching card, 2 love notes using watercolouring, a thank you gift box AND we got to fill in all of the Stampin' Up! colour charts, which have a sample of each of the 48 colours of card, markers and inks.

We used the Stampin' Up! watercolour paper which makes a huge difference to the outcome of the coloured image.  It makes it so much better! and much easier to manipulate the colour.  I will be running a card making class on Tuesday 13th May which will focus on watercolouring. SU Convention 2008

This is me at the Convention Awards dinner with my lovely team members Merryl and Kylie.  I'm in the middle! I had my hair coloured right before convention so am now a little darker than my photo on my blog.  OK, a lot darker!  I asked to go back to my natural colour, mousy brown, and this is what I got!  I just keep telling myself "It will fade, it will fade!" 

Convention was brilliant!  I had so much fun, learnt a lot and really enjoyed spending time with some old friends, and making some new ones!

The theme of convention was "Dream Big".  My dream last year when I attended convention was to be on stage getting an award at the next convention.  I achieved my dream and got to walk on stage, hug Shelli Gardner, get a free stamp set and an award pin, all for getting 6 recruits in the last year (A level 1 recruiting award).  I am very proud of myself!  Thanks to my wonderful team for sharing the journey with me and making it all possible.  Here I am on stage:

Class Next Tuesday - Year of Cards Booklet

Would you like to make this book?  You can at my class next Tuesday 25th March 2008, at my home in McGraths Hill, Sydney at 7.30pm!  McGraths Hill is near Windsor and Rouse Hill to the Northwest of the city.

I provide all the materials including the binding and it will only cost you $25.

This is essentially a birthday (or special occasion) book.  It has a page for each month with a calendar that you write your special events on.  Each page is also a pocket that you can keep the cards you make (or buy - although I would never buy a card these days!!!) in, so they are ready for that special occasion.

Valentine Card and Card Making Classes

A valentine card!  I have a few card making classes coming up so thought as an added extra I would let everyone create a card for that special someone in their life (or potential special someone!) for valentine's day. 

This card design is one we created as a make and take at Stampin' Up! Convention last year, with one of the free stamp sets we were given, 'Dream come true'.  I have changed the original colours and used organdy ribbon instead of twill tape.  I quite like the simplicity of the design and thought that in these colours that it would be good for a bloke or a gal.

Stamp and Scrap for Cancer

Complaining that you don't have any time to scrap, stamp or make cards?
