I was asked to present a "Workshop Wow" at the Sydney Regional Training Day for Stampin' Up! demonstrators, in Sydney (Darling Harbour). I felt very honoured to be asked and then daunted. What would I present?
I chose to show how you can use bleach with your stamps in different ways. Over the next few days I will show you the projects I made to show the techniques I shared.
Today... I will share the first one: Simple Stamping with bleach.
Yes, this is the bleach that you use to clean your bathroom, that I am talking about. Common household bleach!
First you need to make a disposable bleach stamp pad. I use a flat bottomed container and some paper towel, then pour some bleach into the paper towel. If you make the paper too wet then just add another paper towel on top.
You simply pat your stamp lightly onto the moist paper towel and stamp it onto your card. The bleach will react with the card and bleach out the colour. Hopefully!
I say hopefully, because using bleach is not an exact science. There are a couple of things you need to remember:
1. Always use fresh bleach. The bleach "goes off" after a few hours exposed to the air and so will no longer bleach out the colour when you use it to stamp.
2. Choose your card colour carefully. Some card colours do not react to bleach very well, if at all. Black card doesn't react at all - surprising but true! You would not believe how many times I tried it before I was convinced! Other colours that don't give a great reaction are cameo coral, pink passion, so saffron, blush blossom and bashful blue. All mentioned card colours are from Stampin' Up! of course!
Colours that are great performers with bleach (they react well) are pretty in pink, sage shadow, pale plum, rose red, brocade blue and ruby red. There are others but I can't name them all! I will show you my bleach colour chart later in the week.
3. Be Patient! It will take a few seconds for the bleach to react with the cardstock.
4. Practice makes perfect! You may need to experiment a bit to get the perfect effect.
Here is the project I made using simple bleach stamping. This is also a SNEAK PEAK at a brand new stamp and punch that will both be available in the new Summer Mini Catalogue beginning 1 December:
I have used Rose red cardstock and stamped the butterfly image in bleach, it gives a pretty tan colour that coordinates with kraft, sahara sand and vanilla.
I made my bleached card into an elongated triangle box. If you subscribe to my monthly newsletter you would have recieved a photo tutorial for the triangle box in my last newsletter. The elongated triangle box just uses a narrower piece of card. Click in the box at the left hand top of my blog if you would like to receive my newsletter in the future.
Here are some close ups:
Check back tomorrow for more ways to use bleach with your stamps.
Happy Stamping!
